Hope can be lost pretty easily. With a diabetes diagnosis, a complication, or countless other challenging things about this disease adding up, it can be hard not to lose hope.
After 30 years with diabetes, I definitely understand how things can get hard. There are days I’ve just wanted to walk away from it, honestly.
I have blogged about this kind of thing in the past:

LOSING HOPE
I wrote a devotion about this sort of thing that I included in my book, and I also posted it to share as a blog post, called “Wandering Away from Diabetes.” It addresses what happens when we lose hope and want to give up. Here’s an excerpt:
Have you ever just had your fill of diabetes? Have you ever wanted to throw in the towel? Have you ever thought enough is enough?
Aside from the never-ending nature of this chronic illness, all the medication and beeping and carb counting and appointments and sleep loss can sure add up to drag us down. It’s no wonder people with diabetes often wander away from taking good care of themselves.

WHY DO WE LOSE HOPE?
As I explained above, diabetes is a lot to handle. It can feel overwhelming. It never ends, it never takes a break, and we can get worn out and lose hope.
But what are we losing hope in?
Could we lose hope in our lack of endurance and strength to manage a chronic illness day to day without being worn out? Is it possible we are losing hope in our earthly bodies that we know will ultimately fail us?
THE DIFFERENCE MAKER
We live in a world overflowing with brokenness and disease, chronic illness and pain. The difference-maker for me, and for all my brothers and sisters in Christ, is that my hope isn’t in the things of this fallen and broken world. Because I believe in Jesus and trust in Him, God promises that one day in heaven I will have a new body that isn’t broken or diseased, chronically ill, or full of pain.
It will be nothing short of a beautiful and glorious miracle to experience this renewed body in heaven in the overwhelming presence of Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. One day He will make me new. And he will make you new too.
So let’s focus on God’s promises and renew our hope in Him by reading His word over the next 10 days.
WHAT DOES GOD’S WORD SAY ABOUT PEACE?
Over the next 10 days you will uncover several truths about peace that are sure to encourage you. The Psalms are full of verses about hope, and Hebrews and Romans, too. Plus, you will even get to read one of my absolute favorite verses of all – it’s in Habakkuk!
So enjoy these next 10 days focused on renewing your hope as you read God’s Word. Let Him reach you and comfort and encourage you each day.
