If you ask me, it takes a special person to be a good teacher. They need to have a certain level of empathy and complete patience. Teachers also need to be smart and knowledgeable about what and how they teach. Organized, but adaptable. Flexible, but disciplined. Creative. Trustworthy. Oh, yes… they also need to be good with children! And a sense of humor certainly goes a long way.
There’s more to the list, but you get the idea. Being a teacher can be a big job. And they do such good things for the next generation. Whether that’s teaching in a public school, private school, homeschool, or as a Sunday school teacher.
And when they have a kid with diabetes in the classroom, they’re taking on a bit more yet. So they need our encouragement!

Why Bible Verses for Teachers?
Sure, most teachers get summers off. And I can’t think of other professions that get that perk. But throughout the school year, they are working hard to teach our youth. They need all the encouragement we can provide. And the best encouragement I know comes from the Bible — the word of truth.
So let’s jump right in to some important Bible verses that are key for starting the day well.
Bible Verses for Teachers to Start the Day
The Lord has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad. Psalm 118:24
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Bible Verses for Teachers who Need a Boost
As I mentioned earlier, teaching can be a big job. And, much like many other professions, it can also be a rough road sometimes. When those times come, we can turn to the God’s Word for encouragement, comfort, and stability.
So here are several favorite Bible verses for a teacher who just needs a boost.
For a Struggling Teacher
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8

For the Teacher Who Needs Encouragement
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:30-31
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

Instructional Bible Verses for Teachers
The Bible offers such great insight on how we should live our lives. And it’s certainly no different for teachers. I could have pulled even more verses from scripture for this next section, but here are eight Bible verses for teachers looking for instruction.
Scriptural Instruction for Teachers
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. Proverbs 9:9
Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave. Exodus 18:20

and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23

The REsponsibilities of a Teacher
The responsibilities are great. And God’s Word doesn’t shy away from being honest about that. Teachers are judged with a greater strictness. It’s because a teacher does so much to shape a generation. They have such influence. So let’s take a look at those scriptures.
Bible Verses About a Teacher’s Responsibility
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11 (ESV)
Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. Titus 2:7-8 (ESV)
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13
Scripture about Our Growth in Faith
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. 1 Corinthians 12:27-30
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:11-16

A Prayer for Teachers
Lord Jesus Christ, I thank You for teachers of all kinds today. Those who help to shape the next generation certainly play such an important role in our lives and in our families. Remind them that they are loved by You, their Creator. And may they turn to the Word of God for strength in their inner being. Help them also to know the fullness of God and the love of Christ. God, fill them with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Provide for them all they need, and may they also look to you as their provider. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
