45 Verses of Thanksgiving and Praise
This collection of thanksgiving Bible verses come from both the Old Testament and New Testament. They were penned by prophets, psalmists, apostles, and more. I pray they are encouraging to your heart and remind you to give praise to our Heavenly Father.
Thanksgiving Bible Verses from the Old Testament
The Old Testament is packed with Bible verses of Thanksgiving. Here are just a few from the book of Exodus, Jonah, and the prophet Jeremiah.
The Lord is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
“But I, with shouts of grateful praise,
will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good.
I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”
Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed;
save me and I will be saved,
for you are the one I praise.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

1 Chronicles Verses of Praise and Thanks
Although the book of 1 Chronicles was written in a time of great difficulty for God’s people, they still praised and gave thanks to Him. May these verses be a reminder to you that God is worthy of our praise through all situations.
Sing to the Lord, all the earth;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.
Thanksgiving Bible Verses from Isaiah
Following are a few verses from the prophet Isaiah, as he encourages us to trust in the Lord and give Him praise.
In that day you will say:
“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done,
and proclaim that his name is exalted.
Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things;
let this be known to all the world.
Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion,
for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.”
Lord, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Thanksgiving Bible Verses from The Book of Psalms
The book of Psalms is absolutely packed with spiritual songs of thanksgiving. It’s so full that it created an entire 30-day “thankful heart” Bible reading plan just from the Psalms! May these words from the psalmist help you make a joyful noise to the Lord this season.
I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;
I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him.
I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
The land yields its harvest;
God, our God, blesses us.
I will praise God’s name in song
and glorify him with thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Verses from The Psalms Continued
My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.
I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
It is good to praise the Lord
and make music to your name, O Most High,
proclaiming your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

New Testament Bible Verses on Thanksgiving
Not only do we find thanksgiving Bible verses in the Old Testament, but they are all over the New Testament as well. Here is a sampling to get us started.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
Paul’s Letters to the Churches about Thanksgiving
The apostle Paul had a way with words, and they were often extremely encouraging. He praised God throughout everything, and I pray he encourages you to be thankful as well.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.

Thanksgiving Bible Verses from Colossians
As you read the following verses, be reminded that these words were penned by the apostle Paul as he was in prison in Rome. He was awaiting his trial before Caesar, yet he was encouraging others and giving God praise.
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
Thanksgiving Bible Verses from The Book of Ephesians
Another letter written by Paul, the book of Ephesians is filled with thanksgiving.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thankful Verses from 2 Corinthians
Paul wrote two letters to the Corinthian church, and he was so encouraging and uplifting. Here he calls on the Corinthians to rejoice and give thanks.
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
