ZERO CHAOS ISN’T POSSIBLE
Now, I don’t believe we can just get rid of the chaos of life (or diabetes) entirely. We can’t completely avoid the unpredictable. I wouldn’t suggest you can somehow wave a magic wand and live a chaos-free life. And I would never tell you that loving God and following Jesus will lead you to a life of zero troubles. (That wouldn’t be biblical of me – see John 16:33 and James 1:2-4.)
It’s like I wrote in my book:
Like a roller coaster, diabetes can be unpredictable. It brings a unique set of twists and turns and ups and downs (highs and lows, literally). Just when you think you’re coasting along with great blood sugar numbers, something changes and you’re suddenly having repeat lows. Then when you get that figured out, you either get sick and have insulin resistance or your doctor prescribes the “s word”…steroids. Hello, highs!
Even when we can point to what caused the change, we don’t always understand why it caused it. There are too many variables that can affect blood sugar. It can sure be hard to pin down, and it can feel like you’re out of control.

So what can we do?
One of the beauties of life is that we have choices. We can’t always choose what happens to us or around us; it’s true. But we can choose how we respond. In fact, often times our response is more important than what happens to us.
So what is your typical response when something unpredictable happens? How do you usually react when the chaos begins?
What if our initial thought was to turn to God? How would that change things? How would that calm the situation in front of you? What would centering your thoughts on God do for you in that moment? How would that provide peace in the midst of chaos?
WHAT IS PEACE of mind?
Peace of mind doesn’t mean the absence of chaos, or living an easy life, or heavenly birds tweeting as we stroll gleefully about our day. Those birds are only in the movies, right?
True peace of mind involves your entire soul being at rest through prayer and connection with our Heavenly Father. It comes as a gracious gift from God. And that kind of peace of mind can be helpful regardless of the situation around you.
In fact, peace can come to us right in the middle of the mess. Because Jesus is with us always, and He is the Prince of Peace.
Bible Verses about Peace of Mind from Isaiah
The prophet Isaiah spoke of peace often. He cited God as the source of his peace. And he can encourage us in this even today as we read his uplifting words.
Surely God is my salvation;
Isaiah 12:2
I will trust and not be afraid.
The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.”
Lord, you establish peace for us;
Isaiah 26:12
all that we have accomplished you have done for us.
You will keep in perfect peace
Isaiah 26:3
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
The fruit of that righteousness will be peace;
Isaiah 32:17
its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.
So do not fear, for I am with you;
Isaiah 41:10
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
How beautiful on the mountains
Isaiah 52:7
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
Isaiah 53:5
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
Though the mountains be shaken
Isaiah 54:10
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
You will go out in joy
Isaiah 55:12
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.
For to us a child is born,
Isaiah 9:6
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Psalms with Bible Verses about Peace
Another Old Testament book we can find encouragement from is the book of Psalms. Written by King David and other authors, this book is a beautiful collection of raw emotion, honesty, and praise of God through it all. Let’s take a look at a few.
In peace I will lie down and sleep,
Psalm 4:8
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.You prepare a table before me
Psalm 23
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
The Lord gives strength to his people;
Psalm 29:11
the Lord blesses his people with peace.
Turn from evil and do good;
Psalm 34:14
seek peace and pursue it.
Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
Psalm 37:37
a future awaits those who seek peace.
God is our refuge and strength,
Psalm 46:1
an ever-present help in trouble.
I will listen to what God the Lord says;
Psalm 85:8
he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—
but let them not turn to folly.
Great peace have those who love your law,
Psalm 119:165
and nothing can make them stumble.
