And if you’re anything like me, you hit snooze a couple times, do some catlike stretches, and ponder how to extend time itself before eventually surrendering to the idea of getting out of bed. (Can you tell I’m not a morning person? Not so much.) Either way, the 25 powerful morning prayers below can certainly help you have a great morning as you focus on God as you begin your day.

God loves to hear from you at any time in any place. So a short morning prayer could happen along with your daily Bible reading. Or it could take place before your feet even hit the floor. Stretching and waking, you could be taking deep breaths and praying simple prayers to the might God of the universe before your day begins. What a great way to start the day!

A Powerful Morning Prayer of Thanksgiving
One of my favorite morning prayers is simply giving thanks. Early morning is the best time to express gratitude. You can read more on this within my How to Have a Thankful Heart blog post (with a free Bible reading plan download included). Here is a prayer of gratitude for the beginning of the day.
1. A prayer of Thanks to God
Dear God, thank You for the gift of a new day. Thank You for rest and divine protection overnight and Your promise of a beautiful day today Lord. Also, thank You for life and for having a plan for me. Thank You, God, for the gift of the Holy Spirit to nudge and guide me while I walk through the day. I thank You also for Your grace and mercy that follow me every day. And I also am so grateful for your unwavering, steadfast love. Thank You for my day ahead, Lord. May it be pleasing to You.
A Prayer for The Presence of God
One of the reasons I love morning prayer is that it sets the tone for a good day. We can praise and thank God for so many things, and we can pray for His presence throughout our upcoming day. Here is an example of a morning prayer for this.

Lord God, I thank You that You are with me. You promise in Your word that You will be, and I cling to that promise now. I pray today that I would feel Your presence. I also pray that You would send Your Holy Spirit to guide and direct my day. Lord, help me to calm when I feel anxious, trust You when I worry, and lay everything in my day at Your feet. Help me to hear Your voice over all the others. Let me be aware of Your presence. Help me to have courage to follow Your leading, regardless of my own wants and desires. And help me to sense the Holy Spirit and Your direction.

It seems so easy in this world to doubt. Just take one look at the news anymore. (On second thought, don’t do that first thing in the morning.) Instead, we have the opportunity to remind ourselves of God’s promises. Here’s how.

God, remind me that regardless of what I see and hear and experience in this world, You have overcome the world. Can you get distracted during your day? Can things that happen throughout your day pull your attention sometimes? It seems so easy to lose focus, doesn’t it? Then let’s start our day praying for clarity, focus, and God’s guidance.

Christ Jesus, so much happens in a day that can cause me to lose focus. So many things distract me. So this morning I pray that you would help me keep my focus on You and the day you have ahead for me. Help me to keep my gaze on you. Renew my mind as I start to drift from what You have for me. Guide and nudge me throughout the day to focus on what is the most important thing.

When we anticipate challenges in our day, we need the covering of God more than ever. Whether it’s a deadline or meeting at work, a strained relationship, or a needed confrontation, we need to set our minds to God and His strength to make it through well. And we can do that through prayer.

Lord, I thank You for Your presence today and also Your promise to always be with me. I’m facing a hard day today, so I need Your strength and help to guide me through it. There are times in my daily life that I feel really zapped. I mean, completely. And one afternoon nap certainly won’t do it. You know what I mean? Those are the times I need to pray for strength. And you can too.

Powerful Prayers from Scripture
One of the beauties of the Bible is that it is filled with prayer. King David wrote prayerful Psalms, and the Apostle Paul crafted prayers in the New Testament, for example. Let’s take a look at a few of those.

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,

13. David’s Prayer of Repentance
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;

This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven,

15. Morning Breath Prayers
Another way you can pray scripture is with breath prayer. I mention this in my Goodnight Blessings and Prayers post also. But it’s a simple way to practice prayer along with deep breathing exercises.
Just choose a short phrase or sentence or verse from scripture. Then say the first part of it as you breathe in deeply. And then say the second half of it as you exhale slowly. Here are a few examples:
- (inhale) “Satisfy me in the morning” + (exhale) “with your unfailing love” (from Psalm 90:14)
- (inhale) “He who began a good work” + (exhale) “will carry it on to completion” (from Philippians 1:6)
- (inhale) “You are making” + (exhale) “all things new” (from Revelation 21:5 ESV)
The beauty of a breath prayer is its simplicity and repetitive nature. You can choose any phrase in scripture you want, and meditate on it while breathing deeply.
Morning Prayers for Others
In addition to praising God and praying for the day ahead, we can pray for others as well. My favorites would be to pray for my husband and for our kids, so I will share samples of those with you below.

Father God, thank You for my husband today. Thank You for the husband and father You have made him to be. I pray for the day he has ahead today. And I pray that he would be Your light to those he interacts with. I pray he would make sound decisions at work. Also, I pray that he would feel Your presence today. Be with him and guide him, God.
17. Morning Prayer for Your children
Lord, I thank You for my children. Thank You for choosing me to be their mother and to shepherd them for You here in this life. I pray for them today, that they would know with confidence that You have great love them. I pray for their interaction with teachers and friends, that they would be encouraging and uplifting to all those they meet. May they shine Your light wherever they go.
A Prayer for Protection
Morning prayers give us the chance to thank God for His protection thus far and pray for continued protection during the day. Here’s an example of this type of prayer.

O Lord God, You are my Creator, my Sustainer, and also my Protector. So I humbly thank You for Your protection over me in days past. As today begins, God, I pray that Your protection would continue. Watch over me, Lord. Keep me safe as I come and go from place to place. Keep me safe while I travel, work, and am at home. I pray for protection over my family members also, God. Keep us safe in You until we have eternal life with You.
Powerful Morning Prayer for Peace and Contentment
Peace can certainly seem to be fleeting in this world. Contentment hardly exists. And anxiety is at an all time high. But regardless of the heavy load we feel in this world, we know we can have contentment and the peace of God. And that’s what we are praying for below.

Dear Lord, thank You for the peace You offer. I am not worthy of it, but am so grateful. You promise a “peace that surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7) in Your word. So God, I pray for that peace today. In a world full of unrest and conflict everywhere, I pray You would fill my heart with Your peace.
20. A Prayer for contentment
God, I thank You today for all I have. I know You provide all I need. But the messages in this world don’t line up with that. I pray You would help me always see Your provision. Help me to remember that everything comes from you. Your word says that “godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6-7). I know I brought nothing into this world, and will take nothing out of it either. So I pray for Your peace and contentment today.
Powerful Prayers for A Troubled Heart
Even James, the brother of Jesus himself, told us we would have troubles and trials in this world (James 1:2). We are bound to have a troubled heart. It’s simply the nature of living in this world. And when we do, we can still lift our hands in praise and prayer to God in the morning.

Father God, I come to You today feeling desperate for You. I know You are my only true hope. My heart is troubled, my life feels messy, and my spirit seems crushed. But You, Lord Jesus, are good. So I come to You today with a heavy heart, but open arms, praying for Your intervention. I pray You would lift my spirits. I ask that You would help me to feel encouraged. And through this struggle, I pray that this hardship would somehow be used for good and also for Your greater glory.
Good Morning PRAYERS FOR FORGIVENESS
As I shared above in the scripture prayers, Jesus teaches us what has been named The Lord’s Prayer (found in Matthew 6:9-13). He also models asking for forgiveness in that prayer example. So we know asking God for forgiveness for our sins is important. So here is a simple morning prayer for forgiveness.

Lord God, as this day dawns, I confess my sins from yesterday. I pray for Your forgiveness, Your mercy, and Your grace. Thank You, Lord, for even the possibility that my sins can be forgiven. Help me to have a fresh start to this day. Guide me today in paths of righteousness (Psalm 23). Help me to follow You more closely, to love You more deeply, today.
Morning Prayers for Interactions with Others
While it’s true God created us for community, sometimes our interaction with others can be strained or awkward. But God wants us to come to Him with any insecurities we have. So we can pray for our interaction with others.

Dear Lord, I want to thank You for the people around me. Thank You for my family and friends. And thank You also for my neighbors and co-workers. God, I pray today for my interaction with the people you have placed around me. I pray that I would be bold to share You with others who don’t know You if you provide me that new opportunity. And I pray I would be a light for You to others throughout my day.
Daily Morning Prayer for Work
We have been called to work as if working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24). So it’s important to pray about our work, our career, and what God has called us to do. Here is a sample morning prayer.

Father, I thank You today for the work You have given me. I thank You for the opportunity to represent You while I work as well. God, today I pray that I can be the best representative for You that I can. I pray I would be a light to those I work with. And I pray I would work with a positive attitude that is pleasing to You. Morning Prayers for Health
Because this is mainly a blog about diabetes and faith, I think it would only be fitting that we end this prayer post with prayers about diabetes and chronic illness in general. Here is another example to consider.
